New York Knicks hire Tom Thibodeau as Head Coach for the next 5 years
After many years of being unable to succeed and stand tall in the NBA, one of the most popular and followed teams in the league, the New York Knicks, have decided to hire Tom Thibodeau as their Head Coach for the next five seasons.
Is this the right person for the mighty Knicks? It’s hard to say, as he’s not the first that has tried to come and save the team from years and years of not being able to be among the best, as we were used to seeing them in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Mike D’Antoni, Derek Fisher, Jeff Hornacek, David Fizdale, and Mike Woodson have all been sitting on that bench before and none of them were able to succeed. Not even having the “Lord of the Rings”, the “Zen Master”, Phil Jackson, as team’s President, has been able to solve this issue, as many expected.
Tom Thibodeau’s career so far as an NBA coach
Tom Thibodeau has been recognized as one of NBA’s best coaches in the past few seasons, with a 255-139 record over his 5 seasons in charge of the Chicago Bulls, and then a 97-107 record as a Head Coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the past three seasons, from 2016 to 2019. Thibodeau was awarded the Coach of the Year trophy in 2010-2011 season, when he was still in Chicago and led the Bulls to a 62-20 regular season record. He was also selected as assistant coach for the USA National Team for 2014 FIBA World Cup and then for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, winning the gold in both.
This is not the first time that Thibodeau will sit in the Knicks’ bench, as he was assistant coach under Jeff Van Gundy for many years, from 1998 to 2004, but now he will be in charge and will be responsible for bringing the team right to the top again. The Knicks will not play in the NBA bubble in Orlando, so it’s time for planning, as the next season will come sooner than expected, as the dates changed dramatically in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. We’re sure him and Phil Jackson will have a lot to talk about and plan during the next few weeks, to try to get the Knicks back on track.
